First Project - Conceptual Design for Entertainment Center in Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur

My task is to design the building facade. My boss wants something unique and the appearance must be different than other surrounding building; eye-catching. So, he sketched the outlook what he wants and I do the 3D in sketchup. This is how it looks. Although, there are three different languages on the facade but it's kinda brand together and creates mixture of functions, maybe this is what we call 'Rojak'. My boss is pleased with the outcome but for me, it's so-so.... (different people with different opinions)

Sketchup Podium Plugin

So, I have tired vray and kerkythea plugin for sketchup, and now what?. Vray is too many settings which is less similar to 3D max studio, one word 'complicated'. And kerkythea is completely opposite from vray, simple setting and not as real as vray rendering. All I want is simple setting and realistic. So, my fellow worker introduced me a new sketchup rendering plugin called 'Podium'. Below is the few examples that he allowed me show in my blog. Enjoy =)

I have to say that I am inspired by my fellow friends in Tassie. Their inspiration in photography genuinely encouraged me to learn the arts of taking good picture lol. They have taken many great pictures and uploaded into facebook. And all their pictures constantly amazed me. I truly love them all and I hope they all enjoy as much as I do because I so happy right now since I got my new baby. The price of my new baby is RM3,048 with kenko 58mm filter, canon bag and sandisk 8gb class 4 plus 3 years local warranty and 1 year international warranty. Well, I can’t wait to try out this baby and I have a lot to learn. And I hope I can take great picture in future and show to them =P.

Here is another project where I have to design the out-look (facade) of the condominium. The floor plans had been drawn by my colleague past two years ago and he is no longer here. So I will take over his project. This proposed condominium project located beside Sungai Kinta; near my secondary school - St. Michael Institution. After two working days, I have finally done it. So I quickly email the image to the client without hesitation, since I'm running out of time for other amendment in other projects.

After two weeks, my boss called me. I went inside his room. He said, "The client doesn't like it". So, I went back to my place to open up the design's image. And I was shocked by my own design. What? Am I serious? Who designed this? It's so freaking ugly. That’s a big LOL to me.

So I think about the design again and again ... thinking ... thinking .........

I came out with this concept, how about Times Square in Ipoh? Since Penang and KL got "Times Square", why not Ipoh? So, I designed similar outlook of Times Square for this condominium but with little bit of other architectural elements.And it took me about three working days to finished this image. LOL

This is best song to those who lose hope. The meaning of this song really applies to all of us. It says that "When we try our best but we don't really succeed it. And when we get what we want but it's not what we need". And this is what we call, 'stuck in reverse'. Could it be worse when we lose something that we can't replace? When we love someone but it goes to waste. What is the worth if we're too in love to let it go? And the tears will come streaming down on your face. However, the lights will guide you home and I will try to fix you.

Keris properties - Semi-D Houses

Working in architecture firm is tiring. Everyday have to concentrate and keep thinking of better design for the client where you don't really have must time to think when you have three or more projects in your hand. And your design shouldn't be as great as your senior's project because in design world, you want to be different than them and wanna be better than them.

Here is another project I designed for my client (Keris Properties). Here is what the client said "I think it would be better to change the roof to pitch roof because it's easy for maintenance". I replied "Ok, sure. What else you want to amends?". "That would be fine from now" she answered. So I done the amendment included all the floor plans. The next day, I received a phone call, it's the client again. She said "My boss doesn't like the pitch roof because it's really look like typical houses in other area (which I really don't know what area she mentioned), can you change to shed roof instead"."Sure, no problem", I replied.

What I learnt from this lesson is that, don't give your 110% effort into your design because there is always an amendment until they change your design upside down. Therefore, don't lose hope, just try your best to design. Don't kiasu kiasi is enough.
